The “Jesus Was a Palestinian” Propaganda and How It Backfires

One ridiculously shameful piece of propaganda making the rounds today is the claim: “Jesus was a Palestinian.” This narrative is pushed in an attempt to legitimize modern Palestinian claims while delegitimizing Israel’s historical connection to the land. On the surface, it’s framed as a simple link: if Jesus was a Palestinian, then today’s Palestinians must be the true indigenous people of the land. But once you examine the logic, the entire narrative collapses.

Historically, Jesus was a Jew from Judea, living under Roman rule in the 1st century CE. The term Palestine didn’t even exist during his lifetime — it was introduced only about a century later, when the Romans renamed the region after crushing the Jewish revolt in 135 CE. From a historical standpoint, the claim is baseless. In reality, Jesus identified as a Judean, a descendant of Jacob and the Twelve Tribes of Israel, and he would have been outraged and insulted by any attempt to impose a different identity on him.

But even if we grant, for the sake of argument, that the claim were true, problems arise immediately. If Jesus were a Palestinian, then his family, his disciples, and his entire community would also have been Palestinians. That would mean the people he lived alongside, preached to, celebrated the holidays with, and saw every day in the streets of Judea — those who prayed with him, ate with him, and even challenged him — were all Palestinians as well.

And if those Jews were “Palestinians,” then their descendants would also have to be considered Palestinians — namely, the modern Jewish people, scattered across the diaspora for 2,000 years.

Here’s the irony: a ridiculous claim meant to delegitimatize Israel ends up proving the exact opposite. By its own logic — which is sheer ignorance — modern Jews are the direct descendants of the very people it calls “Palestinians,” making their historical connection and deep ties to the land undeniable. Far from erasing Jewish history, the claim only reinforces Israel’s legitimacy and highlights Jewish continuity in the land.

What starts as deceitful propaganda quickly collapses under its own contradictions. In trying to erase Jews from history, it only reinforces their connection and legitimacy. This is a dead-end, self-defeating argument — a pathetic attempt by the Palestinians to appropriate and fabricate a history for themselves by claiming the cultural heritage of the Jews, which ultimately backfires right in their faces.

Anyone in the Western world with even a basic understanding of history knows that Jesus was a Jew — a religious rabbi from ancient Judea. This is elementary and widely recognized. Jesus was a devoted follower of Moses’ teachings, and his faith was the core of his life and soul. To misrepresent him would be the deepest insult to his religious identity and theology.
