This old Jewish art piece of the Ten Commandments was made in Danzig (Gdansk, Poland) in 1818. The art piece is an exquisite artifact made of painted and gilded wood. The original art piece measured 39 1/2 inches in height, displaying intricate artistry and standing as a testament to Jewish cultural heritage. Description of the Original: The first words of the Ten Commandments are carved and gilt in raised lettering, set against a deep blue background. The edges of the Tablets are also gilt, as are portions of the crown surmounting the tablets, with the remainder of the crown painted red. Carved plaques of the Ten Commandments were typically placed above the Torah ark in Danzig synagogues, as seen in photographs of the Great Synagogue and the engraving of the interior of the Mattenbuden Synagogue. This particular set came from the Schottland Synagogue, which was built in 1818. The practice of placing the Tablets of the Law above the ark in European synagogues dates back to the 17th century.
